Iranian ambassador thanks Azerbaijan for solidarity amid regional tensions
Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mojtaba Demirchilu expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani state and people for their support during the current regional tensions, AZERTAC reports.
Speaking at a press conference at the embassy, Demirchilu said Iran’s recent actions are based on its right to self-defence under international law and are fully lawful. He added that failing to respond to continued attacks and aggression would have been inappropriate.
The ambassador praised Azerbaijan for demonstrating solidarity through both official and informal condolences, calling it a reflection of the countries’ shared culture and strong relations.
“This serves as a testament to our shared culture and the strength of our relations, for which we extend our sincere gratitude,” he said.
Demirchilu also highlighted recent diplomatic exchanges, noting that President Ilham Aliyev sent condolences to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Additionally, Foreign Ministers Jeyhun Bayramov of Azerbaijan and Seyed Abbas Araghchi of Iran held a phone call to discuss the latest developments, during which Azerbaijan reaffirmed that it would never allow threats against Iran to originate from its territory.
He stressed that Azerbaijan’s top officials have consistently and openly maintained this position.
