Israel conducts continued strikes in southern Lebanon
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have said they conducted overnight strikes on southern Lebanon and are continuing military operations in the area, targeting what it described as Hezbollah militants and infrastructure.
According to a statement from the IDF press service, the operations took place “throughout the night” across several locations in southern Lebanon and were still ongoing.
“Throughout the night, the Israel Defence Forces conducted — and continue to conduct — strikes against militants and Hezbollah infrastructure in several areas in southern Lebanon. The strikes were carried out in response to repeated violations of the ceasefire regime by Hezbollah,” the military said.
The latest escalation comes amid broader regional uncertainty linked to diplomatic developments involving the United States and Iran.
Earlier reports suggested that Washington postponed a planned visit by US Vice-President JD Vance to Switzerland, where a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran had been expected to be signed. The delay was reportedly linked to Tehran’s position on Lebanon.
Iran has previously stated that it would regard any new Israeli strikes on Lebanon as a breach of the proposed US-Iran memorandum of understanding.
