Israel deploys additional forces to southern Lebanon amid Hezbollah tensions

The Israeli military has deployed additional troops to southern Lebanon overnight, taking up what a military spokesperson described as defensive positions intended to protect civilians and strategic sites from potential Hezbollah attacks.

“We’re only at the borderline area in a defensive manner to prevent attacks against civilians and very strategic important points,” Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani said during an online briefing with journalists, Reuters reports.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed that he had authorized the military to advance and secure additional positions in Lebanon following Hezbollah rocket fire late on March 1, which came in response to US and Israeli strikes on Iran.

Since November 2024, Israeli forces have occupied five positions in southern Lebanon, maintaining a strategic presence along the border amid ongoing regional tensions.
