Israeli ambassador: Azerbaijan taking active measures to solve water problems
Israeli ambassador to Azerbaijan George Deek has said that Azerbaijan is taking active measures to address water and climate issues.
“I congratulate Azerbaijan on organising the Baku Water Week. I believe that the activity in water resources is of global importance. Azerbaijan will host such a significant and large-scale event as COP29,” he told Report.
The ambassador emphasised that the strategic partnership between Israel and Azerbaijan covers various spheres.
“Israel also cooperates with many Azerbaijani companies operating in the water sector. Israel's national water supply company, Mekorot, signed an agreement with the relevant state agency in connection with the preparation of a report on Azerbaijan's water strategy in 2023. The document will be prepared in the coming weeks. A seawater desalination plant is planned to be built in Azerbaijan as part of this cooperation. A tender has been organised,” he noted.
The Mekorot company proposed to implement a project to artificially induce precipitation in Azerbaijan to prevent water shortages.
