Israeli army violates ceasefire with southern Lebanon gunfire
The Israeli military opened fire towards the southern Lebanese town of Naqoura on December 2 morning, marking the latest breach of the ceasefire agreement that came into effect last week.
Israeli forces fired bursts of machine-gun fire into the area, leaving one Lebanese soldier injured, Caliber.Az reports via Lebanese media.
Data compiled by Anadolu reveals that Israeli forces violated the truce 11 times on December 1, targeting towns in southern Lebanon. This brings the total number of breaches since the ceasefire began on November 27 to 73.
The violations reportedly include the destruction of homes, artillery shelling, aerial overflights, gunfire, incursions, and the bulldozing of roads and agricultural land.
The ceasefire, agreed to between Israel and Lebanon, aimed to end cross-border hostilities between Israeli forces and Hezbollah following the recent conflict in Gaza.
Under the terms of the agreement, Israeli forces are required to withdraw south of the Blue Line – the de facto border – in a phased process, while the Lebanese army is tasked with deploying troops to southern Lebanon within 60 days.
Since October, more than 3,960 people have been killed and over 16,500 injured in Israeli attacks on Lebanon, according to Lebanese health authorities.
