Israeli embassy congratulates Azerbaijan on Victory Day anniversary
The Embassy of Israel in Baku has extended congratulations to Azerbaijan on the fifth anniversary of Victory Day, celebrated nationwide on November 8.
In a post on X, the embassy wrote:
“Happy Victory Day, Azerbaijan! Wishing peace, prosperity, and many years of flourishing to our dear friends in Azerbaijan.”
Victory Day, observed on November 8, commemorates Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day war of 2020 and the liberation of Shusha — the decisive turning point in the conflict. The city’s liberation on November 8, 2020, after nearly three decades of occupation, was described as the “pinnacle” of Azerbaijan’s counter-offensive.
Following the war, which began on September 27, 2020, and ended with a trilateral ceasefire signed on November 10, 2020, by Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia, President Ilham Aliyev declared November 8 as Victory Day. The date symbolises the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and national unity.
Each year, the anniversary is marked with official ceremonies, military parades and celebrations in Baku, Shusha, Khankendi and other liberated regions, alongside cultural and sporting events such as the “Victory Run” in the capital.
