Israeli envoy: Too early for diplomatic resolution to Israel-Iran conflict
It is too early to discuss a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, Israeli Ambassador to Russia Simona Halperin said during a briefing
Responding to a question about Russia’s potential role in mediating the crisis, Halperin emphasised that Israel's current focus remains on neutralising threats from Iran, rather than pursuing non-military means, Caliber.Az reports via TASS.
“The first priority at the moment is to destroy the desire, the opportunity, the intentions,” she said. “After we destroy them, we will look at the right way to go forward.”
Halperin also clarified that Israel is not bound by a specific timeline or geographic limits in its operation, stating that the country reserves the right to act anywhere in Iran where it perceives threats or weapons stockpiles.
While reiterating that Israel's actions are aimed at safeguarding national security, the ambassador dismissed speculation that the operation seeks to overthrow the Iranian government.
“There is no goal to change [the regime in Iran],” she noted. “Only the Iranian people will decide for themselves what kind of regime they want for themselves.”
Halperin concluded by saying it is “too early to think who, when and how” diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict might take shape.
