Israeli envoy, US senator discuss Tel Aviv-Baku relations in Baku meeting

Senator Steve Daines, representing the state of Montana, together with the acting US chargé d'affaires Hugo Guevara, met with the Israeli Ambassador to Azerbaijan, George Deek, in Baku on May 29, the US Embassy in Azerbaijan has announced.

“Senator Steve Daines of Montana joined Chargé d’Affaires Hugo Guevara to meet Ambassador George Deek of Israel. They discussed the importance of the Israel-Azerbaijan relationship to regional peace and our shared goals and priorities for a continued strong economic and security partnership that benefits the American people,” the embassy wrote in a post on X on May 29, per Caliber.Az.

Before this meeting, on the same day, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a meeting with Steve Daines. Senator Daines congratulated President Aliyev on Azerbaijan’s Independence Day and praised Azerbaijani troops’ cooperation with US forces in Afghanistan. Senator emphasised expanding relations with Azerbaijan and Central Asia and increasing US Senate visits to the region. President Aliyev, in turn, highlighted Azerbaijan’s role as a key Eurasian logistics hub, especially in the Middle Corridor.
