Jordan withdraws Armenian director's film from Oscar nomination Azerbaijani official says
Spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Aykhan Hajizada has said that although this September the film "My Sweet Land" by Jordanian-Armenian director Sarin Hayrapetyan was selected for the 2025 Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Film, Azerbaijan expressed immediate concerns to Jordan due to the film's anti-Azerbaijani content.
Hajizada made these remarks in response to a journalist’s question about Jordan's decision to withdraw the Armenian director's film, which was directed against Azerbaijan, from the Oscar nomination, Caliber.Az reports.
“Contrary to the claim of the Armenian side, there is no question of any pressure here. It was the independent decision of the Jordanian Royal Film Commission not to submit the film for the ‘Oscar’ award and to stop the screening of the film in Jordan. We welcome this decision of the Jordanian side,” he added.
Earlier, Armenian media outlets were excitedly reporting that the Royal Film Commission of Jordan selected the documentary "My Sweet Land" by Jordanian-Armenian director Sarin Hayrapetyan for submission for the Oscar in the Best International Feature Film category.
