Karabakh: Khojaly Airport set for major upgrades to boost regional connectivity
Khojaly Airport in Karabakh holds significant strategic importance for Azerbaijan, particularly for the region, according to a spokesperson for the airports.
Situated at an altitude of 575 meters above sea level, Khojaly Airport covers an area of 188.5 hectares, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
"Currently, the airport has one runway that is 2,170 meters long and 45 meters wide, two taxiways, one apron, and one terminal. In total, there are three aircraft parking areas on the apron," the spokesperson stated.
Khalilova added that several modernization projects are planned to develop the airport infrastructure.
"The existing runway will be extended to 3,000 meters in length and 60 meters in width. Efforts will be made to optimize the airport territory, with the total area planned to be 177.27 hectares and the apron area to cover 47,000 square meters. All upcoming works will comply with international norms and standards, elevating the airport to a modern level," Khalilova explained.
She emphasized that these developments at Khojaly Airport will significantly contribute to the region's growth.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev visited Khojaly Airport on July 5, underscoring its importance in the country’s infrastructure and regional development plans.
