Kazakhstan, Afghanistan to set up joint water research centre
Kazakhstan and Afghanistan have agreed to create their first joint training and research centre focused on water resource management, irrigation, and sustainable agriculture.
A relevant memorandum of understanding was signed between the Kazakh National University of Water Management and Irrigation, the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University, and Kabul University, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.
The document was signed during a visit by a Kazakh delegation to Afghanistan led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Jumanğarin.
The new centre will be based at Kabul University, Afghanistan’s largest and oldest public higher education institution.
It is expected to serve as a platform for training specialists, knowledge exchange, and joint scientific research in water management, irrigation, sustainable agriculture, climate adaptation, and food security.
The centre will operate across several key areas, including water security, sustainable agriculture, environmental monitoring, climate adaptation, and food security. Its interdisciplinary approach is intended to develop practical solutions for sustainable regional development.
