Kazakhstan explores new trade route to Türkiye via Zangezur Corridor
Kazakhstan is considering opening a new trade route to Türkiye through the Zangezur Corridor.
Serik Zhumangarin, Kazakhstan’s Minister of National Economy, said the route would provide direct access to Turkish ports, Caliber.az reports, citing Kazakh media.
“At present, our shipments go via Azerbaijan to Georgia and onwards to Black Sea ports. The new route would allow goods to reach Nakhchivan and then directly into Türkiye,” the minister explained.
The proposed route could strengthen regional trade links and shorten transit times, offering Kazakhstan an alternative to its current corridor through the South Caucasus.
The Zangezur Corridor is a strategic transport route that would link mainland Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic via Armenia’s Syunik (Zangezur) region, significantly enhancing regional connectivity.
It is being developed as part of the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) project, envisioned as a vital segment of the Middle Corridor, linking Asia and Europe.
The corridor is expected to carry not just freight but also energy (including “green” electricity) and digital communications (fibre‑optic lines), transforming the region into a logistics, energy, and digital hub.
