Kazakhstan to build terminal at Iran’s Bandar Abbas port
Kazakhstan and Iran have signed an agreement to build a Kazakh-operated terminal at Iran’s Bandar Abbas port, in a move aimed at strengthening regional trade connectivity, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Trade said.
The agreement, signed in Tehran under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, envisages the construction, operation and eventual transfer of the facility after a fixed period, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh press.
Under the terms of the deal, Kazakhstan has been granted a land plot at Shahid Rajaee Port—one of Iran’s largest maritime hubs — for 27 years. The first two years will be dedicated to the construction of the terminal, followed by 25 years of operation.
The ministry said the project is expected to enhance Kazakhstan’s role in the International North–South Transport Corridor, a key trade route linking Central Asia with markets in the Middle East and beyond.
Officials added that establishing a national terminal at the Iranian port would boost the country’s transport and logistics capacity and create new opportunities for the expansion of foreign trade.
