Kazakhstan warns of criminal penalties for laser, drone interference with aircraft
Kazakhstan has designated the use of laser devices and drones against aircraft as a serious threat to aviation safety and announced strict criminal penalties for such interference, the country’s General Prosecutor’s Office said.
Amendments to the Criminal Code (Article 352-1) came into force on September 16, 2025, establishing liability for interfering with aircraft control using lasers or drones. Penalties range from fines to imprisonment of up to 10 years in cases where serious consequences occur, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh media.
The Prosecutor General’s Office said criminal proceedings will be initiated for each such incident. It added that preventive measures have been strengthened, including increased patrols in areas where laser sources may be used, as well as mandatory reporting requirements for airlines and pilots in the event of incidents.
Authorities emphasised that criminal liability applies from the age of 16. In cases involving minors, parents or legal guardians may also be held responsible under the law.
