King of Eswatini to visit Azerbaijan for UN urban forum
King Mswati III of Eswatini will visit Azerbaijan to participate in the 13th session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13), which is scheduled to take place in Baku from May 17 to 22.
The monarch made the announcement during a meeting with the chargé d’affaires of the Azerbaijani embassy in South Africa, Huseyn Rahimli, as part of the diplomat’s visit to Eswatini, local media reports.
King Mswati III conveyed his warmest greetings to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and emphasised the cordial and friendly relations between the leaders of the two countries.
He confirmed his intention to attend WUF13 and expressed interest in expanding trade and economic ties with Azerbaijan, particularly in the energy, transport, and investment sectors.
The King also highlighted Eswatini’s interest in developing joint projects in the mining industry and attracting Azerbaijani investment to advance the sector.
In response, Ragimli briefed the King on Azerbaijan’s achievements in legal and economic reforms, as well as large-scale reconstruction and construction projects in the liberated territories.
The meeting also underlined the importance of close cooperation between the two nations within the framework of the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement, and other international organisations, reflecting their mutual support on matters of strategic interest.
