Kremlin affirms robust energy partnership with Türkiye amid US speculation
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has reaffirmed the strength of Russian-Turkish economic cooperation in response to US President Donald Trump's recent claim that Türkiye may soon abandon Russian gas supplies.
Peskov dismissed the assertion, highlighting that energy collaboration between Moscow and Ankara remains robust and uninterrupted, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“The TurkStream pipeline is operating at full capacity. The Blue Stream pipeline is operating at full capacity,” Peskov stated, referring to the two major conduits supplying Russian natural gas to Türkiye.
He emphasized that bilateral trade continues unaffected and that Türkiye maintains its independence in determining its strategic economic partnerships.
“We continue our trade and economic cooperation with the Republic of Türkiye. It is a sovereign state that independently decides in which areas to cooperate with us. And if certain types of trade or goods are deemed beneficial by the Turkish side, then the Turkish side will continue to pursue them,” he added.
In January 2025, Hürriyet newspaper reported—citing figures from Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority—that Russia retained its position as Türkiye’s leading supplier of natural gas, crude oil, and petroleum products throughout 2024, maintaining the status it held the previous year.
