Kremlin explains Shoigu's extended visit to China amid strengthened bilateral ties
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has explained the extended visit of former Defence Minister and Secretary of the Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, to the People's Republic of China (PRC), attributing it to the unique nature of the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Peskov emphasised that Russia and China maintain relations across a wide range of areas, including sensitive ones, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Peskov further highlighted that Shoigu's trip to China is part of a broader framework of dialogue between the two nations.
Earlier, Shoigu had mentioned that the authorities are keen to enhance cooperation with China in the areas of law enforcement and security.
The former defence chief also noted that Russia anticipates further consolidation of efforts between the two countries to counter extremism, terrorism, and transnational crime.
Notably, Shoigu arrived in China on November 11 in his capacity as Russia's Security Council Secretary. His visit included attending China's premier military exhibition, underscoring the strengthening alliance between the two nations amid Russia-Ukraine war.
During his visit, Shoigu had the opportunity to observe a variety of military equipment, including the Chinese J22 and J35A stealth fighters, which are said to rival the latest US jets in the same category.
