Kremlin: Trump remains receptive to Putin’s position on Ukraine
US President Donald Trump remains consistent in his views on Ukraine and is open to hearing information presented by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
“He [Trump] is consistent and confident in his understanding of what is happening [in Ukraine], but most importantly, he is open to listening to the information that Putin conveys to him,” Peskov told reporters.
The comments came as Moscow and Washington continue contacts on issues related to the conflict in Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump held a nearly 90-minute phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 4, 2026, during which he offered to help find a solution to the Ukraine war ahead of a NATO summit in Türkiye.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov described the conversation as businesslike and constructive, noting that Trump reaffirmed his readiness for a rapid end to hostilities and that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would continue mediation efforts.
Trump also spoke separately with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about the battlefield situation and prospects for peace, with both sides agreeing to continue discussions at the upcoming NATO summit.
