Kyiv hosts commemoration of 34th anniversary of Khojaly genocide
The capital of Ukraine hosted a ceremony marking the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
The event, organised by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Ukraine, took place at the Kyiv National Academic Operetta Theatre, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Attendees included accredited ambassadors, diplomats, Ukrainian historians, academics, university rectors, faculty, students, and members of the local community.
Following a minute’s silence in memory of the victims, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Ukraine, Seymur Mardaliyev, addressed the audience, detailing the tragedy of Khojaly.
He emphasised that impunity breeds further crimes and underlined the importance of international recognition of the genocide in preventing similar atrocities in the future.
The ambassador also recalled that after the liberation of Khojaly in September 2023, Azerbaijan reaffirmed its commitment to the peace process.
The evening concluded with performances by soloists from the Kyiv National Academic Operetta Theatre, featuring works by Gara Garayev and Fikret Amirov, alongside selections from Ukrainian and international classical repertoires.
