Kyrgyz president calls for UN members to join efforts for global peace
The international community must abandon double standards and focus on joint efforts for peace, security, and sustainable development, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov stated at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Kyrgyzstan is suffering from the consequences of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the accompanying unilateral sanctions, Caliber.Az reports, citing the UN website.
The president noted that restrictions against Kyrgyz banks are based on “false information” and hinder the development of the country’s young economy.
“We cannot sacrifice the interests of our citizens and the economic development of the country,” he stressed, adding that Bishkek is ready to allow an independent audit of the financial sector.
The president also pointed to contradictions in the approaches of Western states: “You demand that we do not cooperate with Russia, while you yourselves are actively developing trade and economic ties with it.”
Touching on the subject of reforms, Japarov stated that the UN Security Council must become fairer and representative, emphasising the right of African states to broader participation.
He also announced Kyrgyzstan’s candidacy for non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for 2027–2028, reminding that his country has never before been a member of the Security Council.
