Kyrgyz President highlights Azerbaijan's COP29 chairmanship as key to climate action

Addressing the Informal Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Shusha, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov praised Azerbaijan’s upcoming chairmanship at COP29 as a significant opportunity to advance the global fight against climate change.

President Zhaparov emphasized that Azerbaijan’s role as chair of the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change will be instrumental in addressing critical environmental issues, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.

He expressed confidence that Azerbaijan’s leadership at COP29 will contribute significantly to international climate efforts.

Zhaparov highlighted that COP29 will provide a platform to make progress on various climate-related matters, including financial mechanisms for combating climate change. He called on Azerbaijan and other OTS member countries to enhance cooperation in the field of renewable energy and to expand practices in digital transportation.

“Kyrgyzstan stands ready to support the expansion of OTS activities,” Zhaparov stated.
