Lawmaker: Türkiye backs Azerbaijan-Armenia normalisation
Türkiye supports the ongoing process to normalise relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, a senior Turkish lawmaker said, emphasising regional cooperation and historical solidarity among neighbouring states.
Speaking at the tenth trilateral meeting of foreign affairs committees of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia, Mehmet Güzelmansur, a member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee, highlighted the close ties between the three countries, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“Relations between Türkiye and Azerbaijan are not merely state-to-state cooperation. They demonstrate to the world the example of true brotherhood. Both countries have supported each other in difficult times, showing solidarity,” Güzelmansur said, recalling the assistance Georgia provided to Türkiye following a devastating earthquake.
He noted that Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia are close neighbours and strategic partners across energy, transport and other sectors. Regional projects and joint initiatives further strengthen collaboration, he added.
“Türkiye supports the process of normalising relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and closely monitors the successful policies being pursued by President Ilham Aliyev in this regard. Ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region is our shared objective," Güzelmansur stated.
According to him, Turkish-Azerbaijani and Turkish-Georgian relations should serve as an example for other neighbouring states.
"This cooperation, founded on mutual respect, trust and brotherhood, serves the future of the region."
