Macron urges national push to accelerate electric transition in France
French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a “collective mobilisation” to accelerate France’s transition to electricity, saying it is key to purchasing power, competitiveness and energy independence.
Speaking at the Élysée Palace after a meeting of France’s electrification task force, Macron said the state, companies and institutions must create the conditions for the transition, while final choices will remain with citizens, Caliber.Az reports, citing French media.
Automaker Stellantis announced investments of more than €1 billion to produce a new generation of electric vehicles at its Mulhouse plant, with production expected to begin in 2029.
Macron also said infrastructure operators have committed to installing 240,000 charging stations across France, including 60,000 fast and ultra-fast points.
The meeting brought together representatives from energy firms, construction companies, retailers, and grid operators RTE and Enedis.
Additional initiatives include EDF’s €240 million investment programme to support low-income households and small businesses in switching to electricity, Octopus Energy’s plan to install at least 10,000 heat pumps within a year, and Electra’s €300 million investment in ultra-fast charging infrastructure by 2030.
