Media: Israel alerted US at last minute about planned strike on Hezbollah leader
Israeli authorities warned the US at the last minute about their intention to strike Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah.
In response to this, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin "became furious," warning of the "significant risks" the US faces in the region, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He also highlighted the potential repercussions of Israel's actions, for which Washington was not adequately prepared. The US interests in the Middle East "could be severely compromised" if American officials completely lose touch with their Israeli counterparts.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) General Staff named the offensive operation launched in Lebanon "Northern Arrows" on September 23. On September 27, IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari announced that Israeli forces conducted an airstrike on the main headquarters of the Shiite movement Hezbollah in Beirut, Lebanon. He noted that the facility was located beneath residential buildings in the central Dahieh district.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s death in an airstrike carried out by an Israeli Air Force fighter jet on the organisation's underground headquarters was confirmed on September 28. Later, the IDF released footage of F-15 fighter jets flying to eliminate the Hezbollah leader.
Earlier, Iranian officials stated that the US bore responsibility for the assassination of Hezbollah's secretary-general.
