Media: Niger, Iran hold secret talks on supply of nuclear raw materials
The military junta in power in Niger is negotiating with the Islamic Republic of Iran for the supply of 300 tonnes of "yellow cake" - uranium oxide, which serves as raw material for the production of nuclear weapons.
According to Le Monde, Africa Intelligence was the first to report that Niger and Iran were negotiating nuclear supplies about a month and a half ago. Le Monde received confirmation from Western and Nigerian sources.
The development of uranium deposits near the town of Arlit in Niger was handled by the French state-owned company Orano. It is from these deposits that the uranium needed by France for both nuclear weapons and nuclear power comes.
In the summer of 2023, there was a military coup in Niger. The military junta that came to power set a course to cooperate with Russia and to sever ties with France, whose colonial possession it had been in the past.
