MFA: Dutch Foreign Minister's statements on Azerbaijan unacceptable

27 January 2024 16:54

Spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Aykhan Hajizada has commented on the the views expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Hanke Bruins Slot, against Azerbaijan.

"The statements of Dutch Foreign Minister Hanke Bruins Slot against our country are unacceptable. The Dutch official made the accusation, clearly distorting the statements of the Azerbaijani side. Unfortunately, European officials have made similarly irresponsible comments. These statements, along with trying to interfere in Azerbaijan's internal affairs, show a biased attitude towards post-conflict realities in our region," Hajizada commented, Caliber.Az reports.

It should be recalled that Hanke Bruins Slot, speaking at a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Dutch Parliament, noted that Azerbaijan's recent statements were worrying. She threatened Baku with sanctions and made several negative statements about the process of normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

"Such accusations, as well as threats to impose sanctions on Azerbaijan, are a blow to bilateral relations between Baku and the European Union," Aykhan Hajizada stressed.

"As for the minister's intention to visit our country, it is well known that Azerbaijan cancelled the visit. The Azerbaijani side stated that during the visit it intends to discuss only bilateral relations and not the Azerbaijani-Armenian normalisation process or internal issues. We call on the Dutch side to stop making statements that hinder further development and progress in the region and to respect the norms and principles of international law," he concluded.
