Military education and training at forefront of Azerbaijan–Italy defence talks PHOTO

On May 20, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, received Colonel General Stefano Mannino, Director of the Centre for Advanced Studies of Italy’s National Defence University, who is currently on a visit to Baku.

The Italian delegation first visited the Alley of Martyrs, where they paid tribute to the heroes who gave their lives for Azerbaijan’s independence and territorial integrity by laying flowers at their graves, the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry told Caliber.Az.

During the meeting at the General Staff, Colonel General Valiyev welcomed his Italian counterpart and expressed his satisfaction with Mannino’s visit to Baku. He emphasised that the exchange of experience in military education between Azerbaijan and Italy contributes to strengthening the professional capacity of military personnel.

In response, Stefano Mannino expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality and highlighted the importance of joint initiatives such as organising military courses, advanced training programs, and specialist preparation efforts.

Both sides underlined the value of bilateral visits for deepening Azerbaijan-Italy defence cooperation and also exchanged views on a number of other pressing issues.
