Minister: Azerbaijani army modernised to level of leading countries

National leader Heydar Aliyev saw the future of Azerbaijan as an independent and sovereign state, of which the national army is one of the pillars, said Azerbaijan's Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov.

“The national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev saw the future of Azerbaijan as an independent and sovereign state. And the main institution of a sovereign state is its army, which ensures its security. From the first days of coming to power, our national leader solved this issue,” Hasanov told CBC TV channel in an interview, Report informs.

Hasanov noted that today the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev developed Heydar Aliyev's idea and modernised the army to the level of leading countries.
