Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov has said that Azerbaijani gas provided almost 20% of Greece's annual consumption in 2023.

“Last year, approximately 18 per cent of Greece’s gas consumption was provided by Azerbaijani gas. It is expected that by the end of this year, 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas will be exported to Greece,” Shahbazov said at a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece Costas Fragogiannis at the fifth meeting of the intergovernmental commission of Azerbaijan and Greece, held in Baku, Caliber.Az reports.

Shakhbazov also noted that over 3.5 years, out of the total volume of gas supplied to Europe (36.8 billion cubic meters of gas), more than 3.6 billion cubic meters or 10 per cent came from Greece.

During the meeting, it was also emphasized that trade turnover between the two countries last year amounted to 1.4 billion US dollars, and the Southern Gas Corridor plays an important role in the energy security of Europe, including Greece.

Fragogiannis, in turn, noted that an advanced mechanism has been created to continue the development and promotion of bilateral cooperation in various fields, including trade and investment, transport, agriculture, energy, technology, healthcare and tourism.

“In general, the 5th meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission lays the foundation for continuous, constructive, effective dialogue and exchange of ideas between Greece and Azerbaijan,” the Greek diplomat emphasized.

Along with the development of bilateral cooperation in various fields, the parties discussed the favourable investment environment in Azerbaijan.

Within the framework of the commission, a two-year action plan was adopted, defining a roadmap for cooperation in all areas.

Following the meeting, the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO) and the Enterprise Greece Agency signed a memorandum of understanding.
