Minister on prospects of Azerbaijan as green energy source for Europe
"Along with natural gas, Azerbaijan can become a new source of "green" energy for Europe and make a greater contribution to the diversification of energy," Report quotes Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov as saying during a panel discussion at the World Utilities Congress in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The minister touched upon the issues of energy security, energy transition, Azerbaijan's growing role as a reliable energy supplier and partnership with Gulf countries in the field of green energy in the context of processes taking place in the global energy supply system.
Shahbazov emphasized that in the current non-standard situation related to the supply of energy resources, sustainable energy security can be achieved through multifaceted diversification: "Not only different sources of energy imports should be provided, but also the diversity of resources for the energy balance. Not only renewable energy sources but also energy supply based on hydrocarbons are not so sustainable."
The minister said that the approach to the development of green energy, accelerating the energy transition in the context of diversification of energy sources is more rational and effective than a policy aimed only at reducing emissions and even eliminating natural gas from the energy mix. It was noted that the smoothness of the energy transition and the path to "net-zero" is directly linked to ensuring energy security.
