“We delivered a speech during the panel session titled “Driving Resource Resilience,” held as part of the OPEC Fund Development (The OPEC Fund) Forum. In our remarks, we emphasized the importance of effectively leveraging the interlinkages between energy, water, and food systems.
We underscored that adherence to sustainable development commitments, advancing decarbonization, fostering partnerships to accelerate climate action, and promoting the use of innovative solutions are essential to achieving long-term resilience and sustainability,” the post by Jabbarov reads.
The session focused on global strategies for sustainable resource management, with international policymakers and experts contributing to discussions on balancing economic development with environmental stewardship.
Launched in 2022, the OPEC Fund Development Forum has emerged as a premier international platform fostering dialogue and collaborative action, particularly within the framework of South-South cooperation. The most recent edition, held in June 2024, convened over 350 high-level delegates and resulted in the signing of several significant agreements.
Among the key initiatives announced was the establishment of the Food Security and Climate Adaptation Facility, a joint effort between the OPEC Fund and the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). This facility aims to bolster climate-resilient food systems and enhance food security in the world’s most vulnerable regions. With an ambitious goal of mobilizing $500 million in investments by 2030, the initiative will commence with pilot programs across sub-Saharan Africa, targeting communities most at risk from climate-induced food insecurity.
