Montenegro to extradite Azerbaijani suspect in €150,000 university admissions fraud case
Montenegro will extradite an Azerbaijani national accused of defrauding victims of around €150,000 through a scheme involving fake university admissions, Azerbaijan's Prosecutor General's Office said on July 14.
The suspect, Tugay Huseynov, is charged under the relevant article of Azerbaijan's Criminal Code over allegations that he collected money from victims by falsely promising to secure their admission to master's degree programmes at foreign universities.
According to prosecutors, Huseynov fled the country while under investigation and was subsequently placed on an international wanted list through the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Baku.
He was later detained in Montenegro as a result of international law enforcement cooperation and operational search measures.
The Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Justice is now completing the procedures required to transfer Huseynov to Azerbaijan, where he will face the charges.
Authorities have not disclosed when the extradition is expected to take place.
