Moscow agrees with Slovak PM on Ukraine oil pressure
The Kremlin has expressed support for Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico’s assertion that oil has been used as a tool of blackmail in the context of disagreements over Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
As Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media, speaking to journalists, the Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov said:
“Yes, absolutely. We fully agree with this. De facto, that is how it is. There is no other way to interpret it.”
Peskov suggested that this dynamic is connected to recent sharp remarks by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy directed at Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. On February 14, during the Munich Security Conference, Zelenskyy personally criticized Orbán.
In response, Orbán stated that Ukraine would not join the EU. He has repeatedly emphasized his opposition to Ukraine’s accelerated accession, citing public sentiment in Hungary. The Hungarian prime minister further asserted that he does not intend to change his position, despite political attacks and alleged interference in Hungarian elections by Zelenskyy.
