Moscow threatens to cut off oil supplies to countries favouring price cap
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said that Russia will stop oil supplies to countries that decide to join the introduction of a price ceiling on Russian oil.
Zakharova made the remarks at a briefing on November 24.
She emphasised that Russia had repeatedly warned that imposing a price cap on oil was an "anti-market measure" that "disrupts the supply chain" and "can significantly complicate the situation on global energy markets".
"Russia has no plans to supply oil to countries that will join the buyer cartel," the spokesperson said.
Zakharova pointed out that many oil-producing states also "oppose this measure".
The diplomat said they understand that Western countries can apply a similar measure to any other state.
"The crude price diktat undermines the world trade system and sets a dangerous precedent not only in the energy market but for international trade as a whole," she added.
Meanwhile, speaking about the Turkish ground anti-terror operation in Syria, she noted it could scale up terrorist activity and increase tensions in the region.
Zakharova added that Russia is in close contact with Türkiye on the Syrian issue and understands the country's "concerns" about threats to its national security.
