Moscow vows all possible assistance to Baku, Yerevan in achieving peace

Russia is ready to provide all possible assistance to the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the preparation of a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan.

The remarks came from Denis Gonchar, the Director of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) fourth department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, as TASS reports.

Gonchar also pledged assistance to the delimitation process by organizing relevant trilateral meetings at a high level in Russia.

"These processes, which are extremely sensitive for both sides, require the search for mutually acceptable and long-term solutions", the diplomat said.

According to him, disclosing details of negotiations or the parties' positions to the media is not always good for the case.

"We are also preparing regular contacts through the public and expert communities of the two countries. This important direction of joint efforts is designed to promote an atmosphere of trust between Armenia and Azerbaijan", Gonchar added.

The Russian official remarked that the trilateral inter-parliamentary dialogue, the initiative of launching which was supported at the Sochi summit, can also contribute to this process.

He added that the trilateral statements by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia remain the basis for a settlement.

Gonchar stressed that the statements of November 9-10, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021 and October 31, 2022 provide a road map for the comprehensive normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.

"At the level of deputy prime ministers, work is underway to open communications within the trilateral working group. Thus, at the 11th meeting, held on 6 December, the issues of railway construction, the development of railway connections and the organization of transport between the three countries and in the region were discussed in detail. At the same time, representatives from Baku and Yerevan noted Russia's positive role in efforts to unblock transport links", he said.

The diplomat also noted that Russia and Azerbaijan have been discussing in a respectful and professional manner the issues related to the biased information presented by some Russian media outlets.

He added that the issue was one of the topics of recent talks between the Foreign Ministers of the two countries, Sergey Lavrov and Jeyhun Bayramov.

"We are ready to continue to seek and find mutually acceptable solutions even on the most difficult issues", Gonchar added.
