MP: Georgia deserves status of candidate for joining EU

Georgian Dream party MP, the vice-speaker of the Georgian parliament, Archil Talakvadze, has said that Georgia deserves the status of the country — a candidate for joining the European Union (EU) "in all directions".

He noted that Tbilisi will do everything necessary in the future to join the organization, Gazeta.ru report, citing the Georgian Imedi TV channel.

"We deserved the status of a candidate according to all fair criteria, and I believe that Georgia deserves the status of a candidate even today. According to the European recommendations, a lot of work has been done, we did and will do everything until the end of autumn, so that the European Commission had full grounds for granting Georgia the status of a candidate...», Talakvadze said.

He noted that at the same time there are political forces in the country that do not want Georgia to receive the status of a candidate for joining the European Union. According to Talakvadze, similar aspirations are directed not only against Georgia, but also against Europe.
