MP: On January Tragedy day, Türkiye experienced pain of its Azerbaijani brothers

Speaking to the Turkish office of Caliber.Az, head of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, and deputy of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Shamil Ayrim said that on January 20, 1990, the Turkish people showed solidarity with their Azerbaijani brothers.

"After the tragedy of January 20, 1990, solidarity actions with Azerbaijan were held in Türkiye. We also experienced our brothers' pain," he said.

Describing the January 20 martyrs as heroes, the MP said they achieved the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence by sacrificing their lives for their homeland, nation and freedom.

"On January 25, 1990, people took to the streets of Igdir and held a rally in support of Azerbaijan. There were demonstrations in Istanbul and Ankara as well as in Igdir. There were 45 million of us at that time. The heart of every one of us beat for Azerbaijan.

Just as the whole population of Türkiye stood in solidarity with Azerbaijan during the Second Karabakh War, on January 20 the people expressed their support for their Azerbaijani brothers. The Second Karabakh War not only demonstrated to the whole world the triumph of the principle 'everyone should live in peace on his own land', but also brought awakening and courage to the Turks of Central Asia and the whole world. Therefore, we have to be more active for the unity of the Turkic world," Ayrim said.

He also recalled that more than 30 Turkish soldiers became martyrs in one month.

"May God Almighty rest the souls of all those who gave their lives for the territorial integrity of our country. Let everyone know that we will avenge our martyrs," Shamil Ayrim added.
