Musk demands audit of US military aid to Ukraine Time to uncover truth
Elon Musk, who oversees the US government's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has called for an audit of military aid allocations to Ukraine.
“Time to find out what really happened to the hundreds of billions of dollars sent to Ukraine,” Caliber.Az reports via Musk’s message on X.
Since February 24, 2022, the US has allocated $65.9 billion in military aid to Ukraine, according to the US Department of State. The funds, drawn from the US federal budget, have been crucial in supporting Ukraine’s defence efforts amidst its ongoing conflict with Russia.
However, Washington has not disclosed specific details regarding the volume of weaponry sold to Ukraine beyond these grants. In exchange for continued military assistance, US President Donald Trump proposed a deal with Ukraine centred around its mineral resources. The two sides began negotiations on this arrangement in early February. However, during a recent visit to Washington by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to finalise an agreement, tensions quickly surfaced in his talks with Trump.
During a heated exchange, Trump sharply criticised the US military aid, saying that if it weren't for $350 billion in military support from the "foolish president" (Joe Biden), the war would have ended within two weeks. Zelenskyy responded with a smirk, remarking, "I've heard the same from Putin—only he said it would have been over in three days."
The confrontation didn’t stop there. US Vice President JD Vance also joined the criticism, accusing Zelenskyy of disrespecting the US side and displaying ingratitude for the assistance provided.
