On November 9, Azerbaijan marks National Flag Day, celebrating a key symbol of the nation’s independence, sovereignty, and unity.
The holiday was established by presidential decree in 2009 and ratified by the Milli Majlis later that year.
The tricolour flag—blue, red, and green with a white crescent and eight-pointed star—was first adopted in 1918 by the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and reinstated in 1990 under Heydar Aliyev’s leadership.
