Official: Azerbaijan pushes for peace agenda in relations with Armenia
Azerbaijan is making every effort to advance a peace-focused agenda in its relations with Armenia, a senior Azerbaijani official has said.
Hikmet Hajiyev, head of the Foreign Policy Department at the Presidential Administration, made the remarks at an international forum in Doha, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He stressed the importance of continuing the process of normalising ties between the two countries.
“We are doing everything possible to promote a peaceful agenda. At the same time, we need the support of the international community. This support should primarily take the form of political backing and political will,” Hajiyev said.
He also urged the international community to avoid statements that could undermine the peace process.
“Support us so that we can move forward. At times, we see elements in political statements that pull us back. This is my appeal to international media, academic circles, and think tanks. Research and commentary should focus on the future, not the past. We recognise the challenges, but our priority is to concentrate on the peace agenda and work towards achieving it,” he added.
