Official: Türkiye, Azerbaijan strengthen fight against disinformation
Türkiye and Azerbaijan are ramping up their efforts to combat disinformation through a new institutionalized mechanism for joint public diplomacy, Fahrettin Altun, the head of Türkiye’s Presidential Communications Directorate, has said.
In remarks made during a roundtable discussion in Baku celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Media Strategic Cooperation Memorandum, Altun emphasized the importance of providing accurate information to the global community, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“This mechanism will enhance the quality of our work and strengthen our fight against disinformation. It is vital that the world receives credible information,” he stated.
Altun recalled that the memorandum, signed on December 10, 2020, had provided a roadmap for media and communications collaboration between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
He highlighted that numerous meetings had taken place since then, under the auspices of organizations such as the Turkic Council, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and through bilateral initiatives.
“During the first meeting of the Joint Media Platform in 2021, committees were established focusing on strategic communications, international media, digitalization, legislative regulation, and education,” Altun explained.
“On March 4, 2025, a panel discussion and roundtable titled ‘A Fairer World is Possible’ will be held in Baku to review the platform’s achievements for 2024 and discuss future prospects,” he added.
