Official: US–Azerbaijan relations key priority for Trump administration
Relations between the United States and Azerbaijan are among Washington’s key foreign policy priorities, according to a senior US State Department official, as both sides seek to deepen economic cooperation and regional engagement in the South Caucasus.
Speaking at the first Azerbaijan–US Economic Dialogue in Baku, Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs Caleb Orr said the Trump administration views the partnership with Azerbaijan as strategically important, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“Relations between the United States and Azerbaijan are one of the key priorities for the United States and the Trump administration, as we seek to open a new era of peace in the South Caucasus region,” Orr said.
He thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov, and the Azerbaijani delegation for what he described as a warm reception during his visit.
Orr added that bilateral ties were “actively developing” and highlighted growing commercial engagement, noting discussions with US companies already operating in Azerbaijan and interest in expanding investment opportunities.
“Our relations are actively developing, and this is only the beginning,” he said, pointing to what he described as “opportunities for further expansion of business in the country”.
