OIC Parliamentary Union holds regional consultations in Baku PHOTO

Consultative meetings of the Arab, African and Asian regional groups were held on June 23 on the margins of the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States in Baku.

The meeting of the Asian Group was chaired by Rizvan Nabiyev, a member of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Nabiyev emphasized the importance of strengthening Islamic solidarity, advancing parliamentary diplomacy and expanding cooperation among Muslim countries. He noted that President Ilham Aliyev has identified the strengthening of Islamic solidarity as one of the key priorities of the modern era.

Participants stressed that amid growing geopolitical tensions, humanitarian crises and the spread of Islamophobia, solidarity among Muslim countries should serve not only as a guiding principle but also as a practical mechanism for cooperation.

The regional groups discussed a range of organizational and coordination issues, including the nomination of joint candidates to the organization’s bodies and the harmonization of positions on its future activities.

The meetings also included exchanges of views on the chairmanship and organization of upcoming sessions of the Executive Committee, General Committee and permanent specialized committees, as well as the coordination of the organization’s future work.

Particular attention was paid to aligning the positions of regional groups and preparing common decisions for forthcoming meetings. Participants reviewed documents and draft resolutions that will be discussed within the committees, and held consultations on developing common approaches, strengthening cooperation and ensuring coordination on issues of mutual interest.

The Azerbaijani delegation took part in discussions on agenda items during the Asian Group meeting.
