Opposition media alleges "purges" in Armenia’s security services
An opposition media outlet in Armenia Hraparak, has claimed that “purges” have begun within the country’s security structures ahead of upcoming parliamentary elections in June 2026.
Sources within Armenia’s security services say that recent weeks have seen what they describe as an informal “pre-election purge” across the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defence, Caliber.Az reports.
The publication alleges that employees with any familial or indirect ties to opposition figures are being dismissed under the justification that their continued employment is “no longer considered appropriate”.
It further claims that, in some cases, affected staff are later informed through unofficial channels that their political connections were the underlying reason for their removal.
The report also alleges that dismissals have extended to individuals with distant or indirect links to opposition-affiliated relatives, including cases where contact reportedly occurred several years ago.
