Orbán warns of imminent global changes linked to Trump’s return

13 December 2024 15:32

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has warned that significant global changes are imminent, many of which will be linked to the rise of Donald Trump as the elected President of the United States.

In a recent appearance on the Kossuth Radio morning programme, Orbán stated that the world is on the brink of major transformations that will impact Western civilization, Caliber.Az reports.

"The world is facing much larger changes than we think," Orbán remarked, emphasizing that these changes would unfold over an extended period and on a historical scale, from war to peace.

Having spoken with leaders from various countries, including the United States, Russia, Europe, and Türkiye, Orbán expressed confidence that Trump’s upcoming presidency would bring about a profound shift in global affairs.

"When President Trump assumes office on January 20, a major shift will take place across the Western world," Orbán concluded, suggesting that the consequences of this shift would become evident in the coming months.

To recap, US President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to rebuild America’s military and end the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Speaking at a gala hosted by the America First Policy Institute at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump reiterated his commitment to achieving peace between Kyiv and Moscow, a promise he had made during his campaign.

"We have to get back to a great country with low taxes and a strong military. We're going to fix our military, we did once and now we're going to have to do it again," Trump told the gathering.

He emphasized the need to address both the military and diplomatic crises, stating, "We're going to work on the Middle East and we're going to work very hard on Russia and Ukraine. It's got to stop."

The former president, who campaigned on an "America First" foreign policy, also took aim at US spending on Afghanistan, particularly after the chaotic withdrawal of American forces in 2021. Trump described the financial resources allocated to the conflict as a "big chunk" of US spending.

Trump's return to the presidential race carries significant implications for the ongoing war in Ukraine, with his stance potentially altering the level of US support for Kyiv, a crucial source of military aid in the country's fight against Russian aggression.
