Orhan Erdem, chairman of the Turkey-TRCC inter-parliamentary friendship group, highlighted this development during a roundtable at the Ankara-based Strategic Thinking Institute (SDE) on 13 July, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Turkish Armed Forces' operation to restore peace in Cyprus, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Erdem lauded Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis for forming a working group on inter-parliamentary relations with the TRNC, emphasizing the importance of dialogue within the OTS.
“Lefkosa was recognized for the first time as an observer under the name reflected in the TRNC constitution. This is very important,” the Turkish parliamentarian stated.
Erdem further stressed that the TRNC's position will only strengthen, regardless of the level of recognition of Lefkosa.
“As long as Turkey is strong and our country supports Lefkosa, this power will remain. I hope for speedy steps on the issue of recognizing the TRNC,” he added.
Ismet Korukoglu, the TRNC ambassador in Ankara, echoed Erdem’s sentiments.
“The TRNC is a modern state with developed institutions. We consider it significant to promote our country's interests in the world, after which recognition will follow. Lefkosa has developed a relevant Roadmap,” the diplomat said.
