OSCE chair highlights strong ties between Azerbaijan, Switzerland

04 August 2026 14:35

OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis has praised the strong ties between Azerbaijan and Switzerland, saying Bern is ready to support efforts to advance peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Speaking during a visit to Baku, Cassis said it was his first trip to the Azerbaijani capital and commended the city's development, Caliber.Az reports.

"This is my first visit to your capital. Baku is a very green city, and positive changes are visible everywhere. This is encouraging, as are the strong economic ties between Azerbaijan and Switzerland and our many years of friendly relations," he noted.

Cassis stressed that the next priority should be to further deepen bilateral cooperation.

"This is a matter of investment, diversification, logistics and energy. I would also like to note that the signing of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia would be a crucial step, and Switzerland stands ready to support this process in every possible way," the OSCE chair added.

He also warned of the dangers posed by the Russia-Ukraine war.

"A genuine dialogue for peace is necessary," Cassis remarked.

Addressing Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, the Swiss official said he looked forward to working together to further strengthen bilateral relations.
