PABSEC mission records no violations in Azerbaijani presidential elections

07 February 2024 22:13

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) Observation Mission hasn't recorded any violations or problems while monitoring the presidential elections held in Azerbaijan, member of the observer mission, Greek MP Konstantinos Vlasis, said.

The voting process was organised following all the rules and regulations, Caliber.Az quotes him as saying.

"The citizens of Azerbaijan took an active part in the voting process. It was obvious how much people wanted to participate in the elections," he said.

In general, the Observation Mission gave a positive assessment of the presidential elections in Azerbaijan.

"We [BSEC member states] have a very good evaluation of the organisation of the election. I have observed the elections in your country several times, but I did not expect such activity. We congratulate you. We can all give an excellent assessment of the organisation of the elections," said the head of the BSEC Election Observation Mission, Bulgarian MP Petar Kanev, at a press conference.

During the observation, we saw how many people showed their interest in the presidential elections in Azerbaijan, a member of the Observation Mission, Romanian MP Daniel Constantin told a press conference.

"The day before we had a lot of meetings. Today, on election day, we visited many polling stations. I deeply appreciate the active interest of the population to participate in the electoral process," he said.

Georgian MP Ramaz Nikolaishvili, a member of the PABSEC Observation Mission, said at the press conference on the results of the monitoring that the snap presidential elections in Azerbaijan were organised at a very high level and congratulated the country's government on this success.

"We have observed a lot of elections not only in Azerbaijan but in other countries as well. I want to note that today's elections were one of the most successfully organised from a technical standpoint. We saw this at every polling station. The day before we had a meeting with the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan, Mazahir Panahov, and today all the promises made to us have been fulfilled," he said.

Nikolayashvili also recalled that for the first time since Azerbaijan's independence, elections were held on the entire territory of the country. According to the Georgian MP, President Ilham Aliyev also played a major role in organising the elections at such a high level.

"I would like to say that I know President Ilham Aliyev personally. I consider him to be an influential regional leader. Everyone should appreciate his work and everything he has done for the country. I would like our country to have such a leader. If I had the opportunity, I would personally vote for him," he said.
