09 April 2025 13:09

Following high-level talks in Islamabad, Pakistan and Azerbaijan have pledged to enhance bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including energy, infrastructure, and regional connectivity.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Azerbaijan’s Minister for Economy, Mikayil Jabbarov, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on April 8, Caliber.Az reports, citing Pakistani media.

Discussions centred on expanding collaboration in strategic areas such as oil exploration, minerals and mining, renewable energy, information technology, defence, tourism, and human capital development. The two sides also highlighted the importance of regional connectivity and investment in hospitality and infrastructure.

Prime Minister Sharif reviewed the implementation of memoranda of understanding and agreements signed during his recent official visit to Baku. He invited Azerbaijani investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan’s energy and mining sectors, particularly oil exploration, renewable energy and infrastructure development.

The Prime Minister also praised the Azerbaijani delegation’s role in recent urban renewal efforts in Islamabad, which followed the twinning of the capital with Baku.

Both countries reaffirmed their ambition to boost bilateral trade, setting a target of increasing the trade volume to $2 billion.

Minister Jabbarov expressed Azerbaijan’s strong interest in deepening economic cooperation and trade ties with Pakistan. He welcomed the progress made in the renewable energy sector, the white oil pipeline project, and Azerbaijani investments in Pakistan’s infrastructure.

The meeting also briefed on the Azerbaijani delegation’s wider engagements in Pakistan and potential cooperation on motorway development aimed at enhancing regional connectivity.

Earlier, Jabbarov, has held high-level meetings in Pakistan aimed at boosting bilateral investment and economic cooperation.

During his visit, Jabbarov met with Lieutenant General Sarfaraz Ahmad, National Coordinator of Pakistan’s Special Investment Facilitation Council, to explore new opportunities in sectors including energy, infrastructure, and mining. Both sides expressed a shared interest in diversifying business partnerships and increasing mutual investments.

Jabbarov also met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, to advance the economic agenda between the two countries. Talks focused on promoting joint projects and strengthening trade relations.

The meetings underscored growing optimism around Azerbaijan–Pakistan economic collaboration, with officials highlighting the potential for long-term strategic partnerships.
