Pakistan thanks Azerbaijan for support in gas resource localisation
Pakistan has expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for the assistance and support provided in the process of localisation of gas resources.
The statement was made by Pakistan's Federal Minister for Energy (Petroleum Division) Ali Pervaiz Malik, during the 30th anniversary of the Baku Energy Forum, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Energy (Petroleum Division), Ali Pervaiz Malik, expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan for its assistance and support in the process of localising gas resources. The statement was made during the 30th Anniversary Baku Energy Forum.
According to the minister, in recent years, a significant portion of Pakistan’s gas supplies has come from friendly countries. Currently, the country is operating under three to four international contracts, he noted.
"Regarding domestic consumption, as our national currency came under pressure and global Brent oil prices rose, demand slowed. We are focused on fulfilling existing agreements before entering into new ones. At the same time, we are working to stimulate domestic exploration and production," the minister said.
He emphasised Pakistan’s deep appreciation for Azerbaijan’s support in this area:
"I am grateful to the government of Azerbaijan and all our partners for their help and support in the localisation of gas resources. This is a key component in managing our gas sector."
Minister Malik also noted that the largest consumer of gas in Pakistan’s energy system is the power generation sector.
"That is why I have consistently stressed the need for a coordinated energy policy. Another key consumption segment is the residential sector. We have a gas pipeline network of about 150,000 kilometres, and millions of households rely on affordable energy. We are working on implementing energy efficiency standards for household appliances," he added.
Notably, the 30th Anniversary Baku Energy Week will take place from 2–4 June, bringing together global energy leaders for what has become the region’s premier industry event. Over the years, Baku Energy Week has established itself as a reliable energy platform on both regional and international levels, earning its place as one of the most anticipated events in the global energy calendar.
Baku Energy Week unites three prestigious events under one umbrella: the 30th Anniversary International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition, 13th Caspian International Power and Green Energy Exhibition, and the 30th Anniversary Baku Energy Forum.
